| Swiftwater Rescue Clinic
TKS offers certified Swiftwater Rescue Technician Level II and III courses recognized by the IRIA ( International Rescue Instructor Authority). These certifications, which are valid for three years, are recommended for commercial guides and Search & Rescue /Fire Dept personnel. The IRIA has set itself apart from other rescue organizations by forming the Risk Management Matrix, which quantifies risk verses the level of training of the rescuer during a particular incident. This 2.5 day course is a perfect starting place for students who have had no formal training in swiftwater rescue. Students enrolled in SRT II courses will observe and participate in the following skills: swiftwater awareness, Incident Action Plan, (IAP), Incident command system (ICS), self rescue techniques, throw bags, swimming with a victim, anchors, knots, mechanical advantage, and entrapment. Students who perform all of the required skills will receive SRT Level II. Students will be certified at an operations level.
The SRT Level III course is only available to those who have completed a SRT II or have extensive whitewater experience. This demanding four-day course will cover, in addition to the above skills: live bait rescues, zip lines, high-line Tyrolean, and night search. A major portion of this class is scenario based. To receive the SRT Level III certification students must pass a written, dynamic swim, anchors, knots, mechanical advantage, and throwbag test. This is the perfect course for river professionals and for avid recreational boaters who want to take their swiftwater rescue skills to the next level.
